Manning/IALS Innovation Fellows

Organicin Scientific, led by Margaret Riley from the College of Natural Sciences, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2023 Manning/IALS Seed Grant. These grants, which provide funding of up to $100,000, are specifically designated for translational Research and Development (R&D) projects.

Organicin Scientific's proposal focuses on the fermentation-based production of kilogram quantities of bacteriocins for field trial testing. Bacteriocins are natural antimicrobial peptides produced by bacteria that have the potential to be used as an alternative to traditional antibiotics. By optimizing the fermentation process, Organicin Scientific aims to develop a cost-effective method for producing large quantities of bacteriocins, which can then be evaluated in field trials.
